- Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, where for forty days he was tested by the devil. He ate nothing at all during those days, and when they were over he was famished.

The Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” And he said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need of food, how he entered the house of God when Abiathar was high priest and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and he gave some to his companions?” Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for humankind and not humankind for the Sabbath, so the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”

- And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever.

- So, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.

- If you abide in me and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
- So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
- Not that I am referring to being in need, for I have learned to be content with whatever I have.

the fig tree droops.
Pomegranate, palm, and apple—
all the trees of the field are dried up;
surely, joy withers away
among the people. - Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and put a new and right spirit within me. - One who forgives an affront fosters friendship,
but one who dwells on disputes will alienate a friend. - For whatever is born of God conquers the world. And this is the victory that conquers the world, our faith.

- And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have obtained the requests made of him.

- Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry).
- And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
- Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will affliction or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword?
- For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not first sit down and estimate the cost, to see whether he has enough to complete it?
- But let justice roll down like water
and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. - When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, he will testify on my behalf.
