  • Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing at all during those days, and when they were over, he was famished.
  • He was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

  • For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not first sit down and estimate the cost, to see whether he has enough to complete it?
  • When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, he will testify on my behalf.
  • Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good.
  • But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you.
  • But when they saw him walking on the sea, they thought it was a ghost and cried out; for they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.”
  • For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.
  • Little children, you are from God, and have conquered them; for the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
  • Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road is easy that leads to destruction, and there are many who take it. For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
  • Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for you reap whatever you sow.
  • The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures;
    he leads me beside still waters.
  • Without any doubt, the mystery of our religion is great:
    He was revealed in flesh,
    vindicated in spirit,
    seen by angels,
    proclaimed among Gentiles,
    believed in throughout the world,
    taken up in glory.
  • I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
  • Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
  • And said to them, “Whoever welcomes this child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me; for the least among all of you is the greatest.”
