- I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, for the full three weeks.
- So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights. He neither ate bread nor drank water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.
- And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, he was hungry.
- And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing over them. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd. And they all ate and were satisfied. And what was left over was picked up, twelve baskets of broken pieces.
- One Sabbath he was going through the grainfields, and as they made their way, his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. And the Pharisees were saying to him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” And he said to them, “Have you never read what David did, when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God, in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those who were with him?” And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”
- And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
- If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you.
- So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them. - Now John wore a garment of camel's hair and a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey.
- Whoever brings blessing will be enriched,
and one who waters will himself be watered. - Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.
- A dishonest man spreads strife,
and a whisperer separates close friends. - Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.
- Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
- Deep calls to deep
at the roar of your waterfalls;
all your breakers and your waves
have gone over me. - Whoever covers an offense seeks love,
but he who repeats a matter separates close friends. - So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
- But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
- I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
- And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.
- Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
- Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me. - Of all that are in the waters you may eat these: whatever has fins and scales you may eat. And whatever does not have fins and scales you shall not eat; it is unclean for you.
- Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight.
- You shall be holy to me, for I the Lord am holy and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be mine.
Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops.And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.”
