- For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
- But when you are arrested and stand trial, don’t worry in advance about what to say. Just say what God tells you at that time, for it is not you who will be speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
- The way of the Lord is a stronghold to those with integrity,
but it destroys the wicked. - Love prospers when a fault is forgiven,
but dwelling on it separates close friends. - For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!
- Wise words bring approval,
but fools are destroyed by their own words. - I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one.
- Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry,
but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing. - You can make many plans,
but the Lord’s purpose will prevail. - Some people are always greedy for more,
but the godly love to give! - Not at all! And you will perish, too, unless you repent of your sins and turn to God.
- Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last;
but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised. - Many will be purified, cleansed, and refined by these trials. But the wicked will continue in their wickedness, and none of them will understand. Only those who are wise will know what it means.
- So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.
- Whom have I in heaven but you?
I desire you more than anything on earth. - Don’t imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came not to bring peace, but a sword.
- When Jesus heard this, he said, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do.”
- For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
- But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.
- But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.
- The lips of the godly speak helpful words,
but the mouth of the wicked speaks perverse words. - People who accept discipline are on the pathway to life,
but those who ignore correction will go astray. - Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves.
- Then he added, “Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: ‘I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.’ For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”
- But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.
