Evil (2/4)

  • Be careful then how you live, not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of the time, because the days are evil.
  • Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.
  • Do not be wise in your own eyes;
    fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
    It will be a healing for your flesh
    and a refreshment for your body.
  • When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil ways, God changed his mind about the calamity that he had said he would bring upon them; and he did not do it.
  • For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
    and his ears are open to their prayer.
    But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.
  • Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry).
  • And he said, “It is what comes out of a person that defiles. For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil intentions come: fornication, theft, murder, adultery, avarice, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, folly. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”
  • The face of the Lord is against evildoers,
    to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
  • Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
    I fear no evil;
    for you are with me;
    your rod and your staff—
    they comfort me.
  • As servants of God, live as free people, yet do not use your freedom as a pretext for evil.
  • If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!
  • For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there will also be disorder and wickedness of every kind.
  • The Lord will keep you from all evil;
    he will keep your life.
    The Lord will keep
    your going out and your coming in
    from this time on and forevermore.
  • Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you on account of the Son of Man.
  • For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and in their eagerness to be rich some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pains.
  • Be still before the Lord, and wait patiently for him;
    do not fret over those who prosper in their way,
    over those who carry out evil devices.
  • Those who walk blamelessly, and do what is right,
    and speak the truth from their heart;
    who do not slander with their tongue,
    and do no evil to their friends,
    nor take up a reproach against their neighbors.
  • Do not be deceived:
    “Bad company ruins good morals.”
  • Thus says the Lord of hosts: Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another; do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the alien, or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another.
  • For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
  • Even though you intended to do harm to me, God intended it for good, in order to preserve a numerous people, as he is doing today.
  • Then the Lord God said, “See, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”— therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken.
  • For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.
  • Keep my steps steady according to your promise,
    and never let iniquity have dominion over me.
  • Banish anxiety from your mind, and put away pain from your body; for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.

Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness. As shoes for your feet put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace. With all of these, take the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty,
and one whose temper is controlled than one who captures a city.
