- For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
- Yet it was our weaknesses he carried;
it was our sorrows that weighed him down.
And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God,
a punishment for his own sins! - The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me,
for the Lord has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted
and to proclaim that captives will be released
and prisoners will be freed. - But be sure to fear the Lord and faithfully serve him. Think of all the wonderful things he has done for you.
- Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
- Who has done such mighty deeds,
summoning each new generation from the beginning of time?
It is I, the Lord, the First and the Last.
I alone am he. - But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets.
- The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released,
that the blind will see,
that the oppressed will be set free. - When you become aware of your guilt in any of these ways, you must confess your sin.
- When you make a promise to God, don’t delay in following through, for God takes no pleasure in fools. Keep all the promises you make to him.
- So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.
- Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good.
- So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
- But the Scriptures declare that we are all prisoners of sin, so we receive God’s promise of freedom only by believing in Jesus Christ.
- I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God!
For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation
and draped me in a robe of righteousness.
I am like a bridegroom dressed for his wedding
or a bride with her jewels. - For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
- And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
- Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.
- For we will be counted as righteous when we obey all the commands the Lord our God has given us.
- We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love.
God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. - But those who won’t care for their relatives, especially those in their own household, have denied the true faith. Such people are worse than unbelievers.
- The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.
- And Jesus said to him, “Go, for your faith has healed you.” Instantly the man could see, and he followed Jesus down the road.
- Those who feel free to eat anything must not look down on those who don’t. And those who don’t eat certain foods must not condemn those who do, for God has accepted them.
- Soon I will die, going the way of everything on earth. Deep in your hearts you know that every promise of the Lord your God has come true. Not a single one has failed!
