I (3/4)

  • I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.
  • And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord.
  • I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion;
    therefore I will wait for him.”
  • A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
  • But he knows the way that I take;
    when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold.
    My feet have closely followed his steps;
    I have kept to his way without turning aside.
  • If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
  • I instruct you in the way of wisdom
    and lead you along straight paths.
  • But I gave them this command: Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people. Walk in obedience to all I command you, that it may go well with you.
  • For I will forgive their wickedness
    and will remember their sins no more.
  • I spread out my hands to you;
    I thirst for you like a parched land.
  • I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
  • Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
  • I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.
  • I have swept away your offenses like a cloud,
    your sins like the morning mist.
    Return to me,
    for I have redeemed you.
  • Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.
  • For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.
  • I will hasten and not delay
    to obey your commands.
  • Repent at my rebuke!
    Then I will pour out my thoughts to you,
    I will make known to you my teachings.
  • I have not departed from the commands of his lips;
    I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.
  • I, even I, am he who comforts you.
    Who are you that you fear mere mortals,
    human beings who are but grass.
  • My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?
  • I cried out to him with my mouth;
    his praise was on my tongue.
  • The Lord is my light and my salvation—
    whom shall I fear?
    The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
    of whom shall I be afraid?
  • Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
  • I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over.

I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
