- A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth:
and a word spoken in due season, how good is it! - There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
- And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
- Grant thee according to thine own heart,
and fulfil all thy counsel. - But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.
- And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
- I made haste, and delayed not
to keep thy commandments. - See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
- Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word.
- But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
- Ponder the path of thy feet,
and let all thy ways be established. - For thou wilt light my candle:
the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness. - I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
- Only by pride cometh contention:
but with the well advised is wisdom. - Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
- For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
- But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
- Teach me thy way, O Lord;
I will walk in thy truth:
unite my heart to fear thy name. - For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
- See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
- If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath,
from doing thy pleasure on my holy day;
and call the sabbath a delight,
the holy of the Lord, honourable;
and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways,
nor finding thine own pleasure,
nor speaking thine own words:
Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord;
and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth,
and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father:
for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it. - Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil.
- Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.
- And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us:
and establish thou the work of our hands upon us;
yea, the work of our hands establish thou it. - Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life.
