Man (4/4)

A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.
One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.In the same way, some think one day is more holy than another day, while others think every day is alike. You should each be fully convinced that whichever day you choose is acceptable.
But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart. But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation.
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.
For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.
And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. Then the Lord God said, “Look, the human beings have become like us, knowing both good and evil. What if they reach out, take fruit from the tree of life, and eat it? Then they will live forever!” So the Lord God banished them from the Garden of Eden, and he sent Adam out to cultivate the ground from which he had been made.
Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.
And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.And then he added, “It is what comes from inside that defiles you. For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.”
The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit. The rich think of their wealth as a strong defense; they imagine it to be a high wall of safety.
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.
The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.Wise words bring approval, but fools are destroyed by their own words.
It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry.Don’t trap yourself by making a rash promise to God and only later counting the cost.
Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work.Unfailing love, O Lord, is yours. Surely you repay all people according to what they have done.
Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband. So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man.And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else.
A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.Giving a gift can open doors; it gives access to important people!
So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself.
And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.And Jesus said to him, “Go, for your faith has healed you.” Instantly the man could see, and he followed Jesus down the road.
For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.
