| Or can a man walk on red-hot coals without scorching his feet? | Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? |
| A man is joyful when he utters apt answers, and even more satisfying is a word in season. | A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it! |
| Alleluia. Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his precepts. | Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. |
| A patient man shows good sense, but a quick-tempered man displays the height of folly. | He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly. |

| Thus you could understand that the Lord, your God, was disciplining you, just like a father disciplines his son. | Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the Lord thy God chasteneth thee. |
