- Behold, we are now going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death. Then they will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and on the third day he will be raised to life.
- The wicked man borrows but neglects to repay,
whereas the righteous man is generous in giving. - Just as water reflects one’s face,
so does one human heart reflect another. - How much more valuable a man is than a sheep! Therefore, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.
- All day long the godless man continues to covet,
whereas the righteous man gives unsparingly. - One day, as Jesus was passing through a field of grain on the Sabbath, his disciples began to pick some heads of grain as they walked along. The Pharisees said to him, “Behold, why are your disciples doing what is forbidden on the Sabbath?”
He answered, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need of food? He entered the house of God when Abiathar was high priest and ate the sacred bread that only the priests were permitted to eat, and he shared it with his companions.” Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. That is why the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.” - A man may plan his own course,
but the Lord makes his steps secure. - Blessed is the person who has found wisdom,
the one who has gained understanding. - A fool is quick to show his anger,
but a prudent man ignores an insult. - Blessed is the man whom God reproves.
Therefore, do not reject the discipline of the Almighty. - Do not let kindness and fidelity leave you;
fasten them around your neck
and inscribe them on the tablet of your heart.
Then you will gain favor and a good name
in the sight of God and man. - Therefore, we can say with confidence:
“The Lord is my helper;
I will not be afraid.
What can anyone do to me?” - The father of a good man will rejoice;
he who begets a wise son will delight in him. - The prudent man perceives danger and seeks shelter,
while the simple continue forward and pay the penalty. - The words of a wise man win favor,
but a fool’s tongue is his undoing. - The Lord makes a man’s steps secure
when he approves of his conduct. - Like a city that has been breached and made defenseless
is the man devoid of self-control. - Do not be deceived; God cannot be mocked. A person will reap only what he sows.
- In the same way, husbands should love their wives as they do their own bodies. The man who loves his wife loves himself.
- You must understand, brethren, that it is through him that forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed to you. All those who believe are justified from all the things from which they could not be justified by the Law of Moses.
- Do not envy a violent man
or choose to emulate any of his ways.
For the perverse man is an abomination to the Lord
whose friendship is bestowed only upon the upright. - God created mankind in his image, in the image of God he created them, male and female he created them.
- Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stand in the way of sinners,
nor sit in the company of scoffers. - Wait quietly for the Lord
and be patient until he comes.
Do not fret over the man who prospers
because of his evil schemes. - The Lord God said, “Behold, man has become like one of us, for he has knowledge of that which is good and that which is evil. Now, we must prevent him from reaching out and taking the fruit of the tree of life lest he eat it and live forever.” The Lord God cast him out of the Garden of Eden; henceforth he was to labor tilling the soil from which he had come.
