  • Do not work for food that perishes
    but for the food that endures for eternal life,
    which the Son of Man will give you.
    For it is on him
    that God the Father has set his seal.
  • A patient man shows good sense,
    but a quick-tempered man displays the height of folly.
  • Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.
  • God is not human, that he should lie,
    or the son of man, that he should change his mind.
    Does he speak and then not act,
    does he promise and then not fulfill it?
  • The wicked man borrows but neglects to repay,
    whereas the righteous man is generous in giving.
  • Jesus answered, “As it is written:
    ‘Man does not live by bread alone,
    but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.’ ”
  • All day long the godless man continues to covet,
    whereas the righteous man gives unsparingly.
  • A perverse man sows strife,
    and a tale-bearer destroys close friendships.
  • What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his very life?
  • He is not here. He has been raised. Remember what he told you while he was still in Galilee: that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners and be crucified and rise again on the third day.
  • If a man has recently been married, he is not to go off to battle nor have any other duty laid on him. He will be free to stay at home for one year so that he can bring happiness to the wife whom he has married.
  • There is a way that seems right to a man,
    but the end of it leads to death.
  • A fool gives free rein to his anger,
    but a wise man bides his time and calms it.
  • A man is haughty until disaster overtakes him,
    but humility comes before honors.
  • A man may plan his own course,
    but the Lord makes his steps secure.
  • In my anguish I cried out;
    the Lord heard my plea,
    and I was saved from all my troubles.
  • Alleluia.
    Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,
    who greatly delights in his precepts.
  • He brought you low, allowing you to suffer from hunger. He then fed you with manna, something with which your fathers were not familiar, so that you might come to know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes forth from the mouth of the Lord.
  • The father of a good man will rejoice;
    he who begets a wise son will delight in him.
  • The Lord God made clothing for the man and woman out of animal skins and he clothed them.
  • The fear of others will prove to be a snare,
    but whoever trusts in the Lord is secure.
  • A man is joyful when he utters apt answers,
    and even more satisfying is a word in season.
  • A fool is quick to show his anger,
    but a prudent man ignores an insult.
  • What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his very life? Or what can he give in exchange for his life?
  • But from the very beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two become one flesh.’ And so they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.

How much more valuable a man is than a sheep! Therefore, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.
