- If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.
- Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
- For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
- My son, if your heart is wise,
My heart will rejoice—indeed, I myself. - A man’s heart plans his way,
But the Lord directs his steps. - And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of the Lord and His statutes which I command you today for your good?
- For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
- For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if you thoroughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbor, if you do not oppress the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, or walk after other gods to your hurt, then I will cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers forever and ever.
- But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
- Do not forsake your own friend or your father’s friend,
Nor go to your brother’s house in the day of your calamity;
Better is a neighbor nearby than a brother far away. - And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.”
- The integrity of the upright will guide them,
But the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them. - There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.
- He who guards his mouth preserves his life,
But he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction. - You should know in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the Lord your God chastens you.
- Therefore You are great, O Lord God. For there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
- The Lord will perfect that which concerns me;
Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever;
Do not forsake the works of Your hands. - Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”
- Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
- As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.
- Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God.
- May He grant you according to your heart’s desire,
And fulfill all your purpose. - Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.
- When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.”
- Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
