- A man's gift maketh room for him,
and bringeth him before great men. - Death and life are in the power of the tongue:
and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. - Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing,
and obtaineth favour of the Lord. - A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly:
and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. - He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul:
he that keepeth understanding shall find good. - House and riches are the inheritance of fathers:
and a prudent wife is from the Lord. - He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul;
but he that despiseth his ways shall die. - There are many devices in a man's heart;
nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand. - The desire of a man is his kindness:
and a poor man is better than a liar. - It is an honour for a man to cease from strife:
but every fool will be meddling. - It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy,
and after vows to make enquiry. - Every way of a man is right in his own eyes:
but the Lord pondereth the hearts. - To do justice and judgment
is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. - He that followeth after righteousness and mercy
findeth life, righteousness, and honour. - He coveteth greedily all the day long:
but the righteous giveth and spareth not. - A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches,
and loving favour rather than silver and gold. - By humility and the fear of the Lord
are riches, and honour, and life. - Train up a child in the way he should go:
and when he is old, he will not depart from it. - The rich ruleth over the poor,
and the borrower is servant to the lender. - Labour not to be rich:
cease from thine own wisdom. - Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not?
for riches certainly make themselves wings;
they fly away as an eagle toward heaven. - My son, if thine heart be wise,
my heart shall rejoice, even mine. - The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice:
and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him. - So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul:
when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward,
and thy expectation shall not be cut off. - He that hath no rule over his own spirit
is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not;
neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity:
for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
