- But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

they comfort me. - Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.

but the prudent overlook an insult. - If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

You provide a broad path for my feet,
so that my ankles do not give way. - Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.
Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.”Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children.
