Bible Verses about 'Slow to speak'

  • So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.
  • And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning.
  • The Lord is merciful and gracious,
    Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.
  • He who is slow to wrath has great understanding,
    But he who is impulsive exalts folly.
  • He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty,
    And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.
  • But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.
  • Open your mouth for the speechless,
    In the cause of all who are appointed to die.
  • Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.
  • Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
  • And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.
  • But when they arrest you and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand, or premeditate what you will speak. But whatever is given you in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.
  • So rend your heart, and not your garments;
    Return to the Lord your God,
    For He is gracious and merciful,
    Slow to anger, and of great kindness;
    And He relents from doing harm.
  • The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
    And will not at all acquit the wicked.
    The Lord has His way
    In the whirlwind and in the storm,
    And the clouds are the dust of His feet.
  • Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
  • Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “None of My words will be postponed any more, but the word which I speak will be done,” says the Lord God.’
  • Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.
  • But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine.
  • Open your mouth, judge righteously,
    And plead the cause of the poor and needy.
  • The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
  • For the customs of the peoples are futile;
    For one cuts a tree from the forest,
    The work of the hands of the workman, with the ax.
    They decorate it with silver and gold;
    They fasten it with nails and hammers
    So that it will not topple.
    They are upright, like a palm tree,
    And they cannot speak;
    They must be carried,
    Because they cannot go by themselves.
    Do not be afraid of them,
    For they cannot do evil,
    Nor can they do any good.
  • Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
  • God is not a man, that He should lie,
    Nor a son of man, that He should repent.
    Has He said, and will He not do?
    Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
  • I will bless the Lord at all times;
    His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
  • Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.”
  • And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.
  • He who walks uprightly,
    And works righteousness,
    And speaks the truth in his heart;
    He who does not backbite with his tongue,
    Nor does evil to his neighbor,
    Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend.
  • He who guards his mouth preserves his life,
    But he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction.
  • The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable,
    But the mouth of the wicked what is perverse.
  • But, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ.
  • The heavens declare the glory of God;
    And the firmament shows His handiwork.
    Day unto day utters speech,
    And night unto night reveals knowledge.
  • Because Your lovingkindness is better than life,
    My lips shall praise You.
    Thus I will bless You while I live;
    I will lift up my hands in Your name.
  • For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
  • Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
  • For
    “He who would love life
    And see good days,
    Let him refrain his tongue from evil,
    And his lips from speaking deceit.
    Let him turn away from evil and do good;
    Let him seek peace and pursue it.”
  • And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
  • Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’ ”
  • Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.
  • Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.
  • I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.
  • For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.
  • And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.
  • For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.
  • And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?’— when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.
  • It is better to trust in the Lord
    Than to put confidence in man.
  • Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.
  • And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.
  • The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
    Because He has anointed Me
    To preach the gospel to the poor;
    He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
    To proclaim liberty to the captives
    And recovery of sight to the blind,
    To set at liberty those who are oppressed.
  • Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.
  • There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another?
  • How much better to get wisdom than gold!
    And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.
