- Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.
- As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them just as on us at the beginning.

and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet. - If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
- And rend your hearts and not your garments.
Return to the Lord your God,
for he is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love;
and he relents over disaster. - And when they bring you to trial and deliver you over, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.
- I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak.
- The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
- Therefore say to them, Thus says the Lord God: None of my words will be delayed any longer, but the word that I speak will be performed, declares the Lord God.
- And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.
- Open your mouth, judge righteously,
defend the rights of the poor and needy. - Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.
- For the customs of the peoples are vanity.
A tree from the forest is cut down
and worked with an axe by the hands of a craftsman.
They decorate it with silver and gold;
they fasten it with hammer and nails
so that it cannot move.
Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field,
and they cannot speak;
they have to be carried,
for they cannot walk.
Do not be afraid of them,
for they cannot do evil,
neither is it in them to do good. - But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine.
- Wake up from your drunken stupor, as is right, and do not go on sinning. For some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.
- I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.
- God is not man, that he should lie,
or a son of man, that he should change his mind.
Has he said, and will he not do it?
Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? - I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praise shall continually be in my mouth. - So Peter opened his mouth and said: “Truly I understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.”
- He who walks blamelessly and does what is right
and speaks truth in his heart;
who does not slander with his tongue
and does no evil to his neighbor,
nor takes up a reproach against his friend. - Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life;
he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin. - The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable,
but the mouth of the wicked, what is perverse. - Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ.
- The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge. - Because your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you.
So I will bless you as long as I live;
in your name I will lift up my hands. - For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
- Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
- For “Whoever desires to love life
and see good days,
let him keep his tongue from evil
and his lips from speaking deceit;
let him turn away from evil and do good;
let him seek peace and pursue it.” - And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
- Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
- Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.
- If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.
- For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.
- For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
- I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.
- It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in man. - And if you say in your heart, ‘How may we know the word that the Lord has not spoken?’— when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him.
- Even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
- And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.
- The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed. - So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.
- Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.
- How much better to get wisdom than gold!
To get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver. - The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
