- You must understand this, my beloved: let everyone be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger.

for he is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love,
and relents from punishing. - If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
- When they bring you to trial and hand you over, do not worry beforehand about what you are to say; but say whatever is given you at that time, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.
- Speak out, judge righteously,

a tree from the forest is cut down,
and worked with an ax by the hands of an artisan;
people deck it with silver and gold;
they fasten it with hammer and nails
so that it cannot move.
Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field,
and they cannot speak;
they have to be carried,
for they cannot walk.
Do not be afraid of them,
for they cannot do evil,
nor is it in them to do good. - But as for you, teach what is consistent with sound doctrine.
- Come to a sober and right mind, and sin no more; for some people have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.
- Now I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you be in agreement and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same purpose.
- God is not a human being, that he should lie,
or a mortal, that he should change his mind.
Has he promised, and will he not do it?
Has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? - I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praise shall continually be in my mouth. - When they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness.
- Those who guard their mouths preserve their lives;
those who open wide their lips come to ruin. - The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable,
but the mouth of the wicked what is perverse. - But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ.

and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours forth speech,
and night to night declares knowledge. - Because your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you.
So I will bless you as long as I live;
I will lift up my hands and call on your name. - Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
- For
“Those who desire life
and desire to see good days,
let them keep their tongues from evil
and their lips from speaking deceit;
let them turn away from evil and do good;
let them seek peace and pursue it.” - For to me, living is Christ and dying is gain.
- Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise.
- Jesus said to her, “Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ”
- Pay to all what is due them—taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due.
- If the member refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if the offender refuses to listen even to the church, let such a one be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.

- I have come to call not the righteous but sinners to repentance.
- You may say to yourself, “How can we recognize a word that the Lord has not spoken?” If a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord but the thing does not take place or prove true, it is a word that the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; do not be frightened by it.
- Just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.
- If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.
- The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free. - It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to put confidence in mortals. - Anyone, then, who knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, commits sin.
- Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.
- Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.
- How much better to get wisdom than gold!
