Bible Verses about 'Slow to speak'
- Remember this, my beloved brethren: everyone should be quick to listen but slow to speak and slow to anger.
- As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit descended upon them just as it had upon us at the beginning.
- The Lord is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in kindness. - Speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves,
and defend the rights of the destitute. - Take no part in the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather seek to expose them.
For it is shameful even to speak of what deeds people do in secret. - Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which separated and came to rest on each one of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different languages, as the Spirit enabled them to do so.
- Rend your hearts and not your garments,
and turn back to the Lord, your God.
For he is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger, rich in kindness,
and always prepared to relent from punishing. - The Lord is slow to anger but great in power,
and he will never allow the guilty
to escape punishment.
He makes his way in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust beneath his feet. - When they arrest you and bring you to trial, do not be concerned beforehand about what you are to say. Simply say whatever is given to you when that time comes, for it will not be you who speak but the Holy Spirit.
- Speak out and pronounce righteous judgments;
defend the rights of the wretched and the poor. - If in speaking I use human tongues
and angelic as well,
but do not have love,
I am nothing more than a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. - I tell you that on the day of judgment people will have to render an account for every careless word they utter.
- A patient man shows good sense,
but a quick-tempered man displays the height of folly. - It is better to be a patient man rather than a warrior,
one who controls his temper rather than one who captures a city. - For the carved images of the nations are powerless;
they are nothing more than wood cut from a forest,
fashioned with a knife by craftsmen
and embellished with silver and gold.
Then they are fastened with hammers and nails
to prevent them from toppling.
Like scarecrows in a cucumber field
they are unable to speak,
and they must be carried from place to place
since they cannot walk.
Do not be afraid of them,
for they can do no harm,
nor do they have any power to do good. - I do not say this because I have been in need, for I have learned to be content with whatever I have.
- Therefore say to them, “Thus says the Lord God: The fulfillment of my words will not be delayed any longer. What I have said will be done now. This is the word of the Lord God.”
- The Lord does not delay in keeping his promise, as some think in terms of delay, but he is patient with you. It is not his wish that any should perish but rather that all should be brought to repentance.
- As for you, teach what is consistent with sound doctrine.
- God is not human, that he should lie,
or the son of man, that he should change his mind.
Does he speak and then not act,
does he promise and then not fulfill it? - You might say to yourself, “How can we know that the Lord did not speak the message?” If what the prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord is not true and it does not happen, then the message was not proclaimed by the Lord. The prophet has spoken presumptuously, you should not fear him.
- Your kindness is a greater joy than life itself;
thus my lips will speak your praise.
I will bless you all my life;
with uplifted hands I will call on your name. - Come to your senses and sin no more. For some of you have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.
- Brethren, I exhort you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to be in full agreement with one another and not permit any divisions to arise among you. Be perfectly united in mind and purpose.
- I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praise will be continually on my lips. - Then Peter addressed them: “I now understand how true it is that God has no favorites, but that in every nation all those who fear God and do what is right are acceptable to him.”
- When they had finished their prayer, the place where they were gathered together shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and proclaimed the word of God fearlessly.
- The one who leads a blameless life
and does what is right,
who speaks the truth from the heart
and does not slander anyone,
who does not harm a friend
and does not scorn a neighbor. - He who guards his mouth makes his life secure,
but one who talks excessively ensures his own downfall. - The lips of the righteous utter words of kindness,
but the mouth of the wicked knows only how to pervert. - Rather, professing truth and love, we will in all things grow into him who is the head, Christ.
- The heavens proclaim the glory of God;
the firmament shows forth the work of his hands.
One day imparts that message to the next,
and night conveys that knowledge to night. - For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
- Beloved,
do not trust every spirit,
but test the spirits
to see whether they are from God.
For many false prophets
have gone out into the world. - For:
“If anyone wishes to love life
and to experience good days,
he must restrain his tongue from evil
and his lips from deceitful speech.
He must turn away from evil and do good,
seek peace and pursue it.” - You shall keep these things that I command you today in your heart. Teach them to your children. You shall talk of them when you are sitting in your home, and when you are walking along the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up.
- Pay to each person what is rightfully his—taxes to the one to whom taxes are due, tolls to the one to whom tolls are due, respect to the one to whom respect is due, honor to the one to whom honor is due.
- Jesus then said to her, “Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to my Father. But go to my brethren and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ”
- The Lord is near to all who call out to him,
to all who call out to him sincerely. - If he refuses to listen to them, report it to the Church. And if he refuses to listen to the Church, treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector.
- I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.
- For the Son of Man has come to seek out and to save what was lost.
- For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.
- And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do as much.
- The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring the good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim release to prisoners
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free. - It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to place your trust in mortals. - In the same way, the Son of Man did not come to be served but rather to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.
- Anyone who knows the right thing to do and fails to do it commits a sin.
- Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace but a sword.
- Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill them.
