- My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.

defend the rights of the poor and needy. - If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
- Those who guard their lips preserve their lives,
but those who speak rashly will come to ruin. - Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.”
- The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
- But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken.
- Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
- Whoever is patient has great understanding,
but one who is quick-tempered displays folly. - Better a patient person than a warrior,
one with self-control than one who takes a city. - I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.
- Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.
- Therefore say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: None of my words will be delayed any longer; whatever I say will be fulfilled, declares the Sovereign Lord.’
- You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine.
- For the practices of the peoples are worthless;
they cut a tree out of the forest,
and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel.
They adorn it with silver and gold;
they fasten it with hammer and nails
so it will not totter.
Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field,
their idols cannot speak;
they must be carried
because they cannot walk.
Do not fear them;
they can do no harm
nor can they do any good. - God is not human, that he should lie,
not a human being, that he should change his mind.
Does he speak and then not act?
Does he promise and not fulfill? - Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God—I say this to your shame.
- I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.
- I will extol the Lord at all times;
his praise will always be on my lips. - After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
- The one whose walk is blameless,
who does what is righteous,
who speaks the truth from their heart;

- Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
- For, “Whoever would love life
and see good days
must keep their tongue from evil
and their lips from deceitful speech.
They must turn from evil and do good;
they must seek peace and pursue it.” - These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
- Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
- For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.
- I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
- If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.
- For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
- You may say to yourselves, “How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord?” If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously, so do not be alarmed.
- It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in humans. - And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that.
- Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
- The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth. - Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
- Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
- The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free. - But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you: to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to keep his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.
- Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children.
