That (3/4)

  • For from the beginning
    you have heard the message
that we should love one another.
  • You shall obey his statutes and the commandments that I give you today, so that all may go well with you and your children after you, and that you may live long in the land that the Lord, your God, has given you for all time.
  • I, the Lord, am your God. You must obey my laws and be careful to observe my ordinances. Keep holy my Sabbaths as a sign between me and you so that you will know that I am the Lord, your God.
  • For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so too do we believe that God will bring forth with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
  • God’s love was revealed to us in this way:
God sent his only-begotten Son into the world
so that we might have life through him.
  • He brought you low, allowing you to suffer from hunger. He then fed you with manna, something with which your fathers were not familiar, so that you might come to know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes forth from the mouth of the Lord.
  • God is not human, that he should lie,
or the son of man, that he should change his mind.
Does he speak and then not act,
does he promise and then not fulfill it?
  • We also know
that the Son of God has come
    and given us understanding
so that we can know the one who is true.
And we are in the one who is true,
since we are in his Son Jesus Christ.
He is the true God and eternal life.
  • Do not work for food that perishes
but for the food that endures for eternal life,
which the Son of Man will give you.
    For it is on him
that God the Father has set his seal.
  • God chose those in the world who were lowly and despised, those who count for nothing, to reduce to nothing those who were regarded as worthy, so that no one could boast in the presence of God.
  • There is a way that seems right to a man,
but the end of it leads to death.
  • Be still and acknowledge that I am God,
    exalted among the nations,
    exalted on the earth.
  • If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person. For the temple of God is holy, and you are that temple.
  • Put on the armor of God so that you will be able to stand firm against the deceit of the devil.
  • For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall also be united with him in his resurrection. We know that our old self was crucified with him, so that our sinful body might be destroyed and we might no longer be enslaved to sin.
  • And every tongue should proclaim
to the glory of God the Father:
    Jesus Christ is Lord.
  • And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do as much.
  • Like newborn infants, long for pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may advance on the path to salvation.
  • Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace but a sword.
  • You have heard that it was said of old: ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that anyone who looks with lust at a woman has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
  • Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
  • And not only that, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we realize that suffering develops perseverance, and perseverance produces character, and character produces hope.
  • Make sure that no one pays back evil for evil. Rather, always aim to achieve what is best for each other and for everyone.
  • By this is my Father glorified,
    that you bear much fruit
    and become my disciples.
  • So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

You will not add to what I command you, nor will you take away from it, so that you might observe the commandments of the Lord, your God, that I am giving you.
