- When words are many, transgression is not lacking,
but the prudent are restrained in speech. - Those who guard their mouths preserve their lives;
those who open wide their lips come to ruin. - And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father's only son, full of grace and truth.
- For what human being knows what is truly human except the human spirit that is within? So also no one comprehends what is truly God's except the Spirit of God.
- The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice;
he who begets a wise son will be glad in him. - Just as you do not know how the breath comes to the bones in the mother's womb, so you do not know the work of God, who makes everything.
- He called the crowd with his disciples, and said to them, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.”
- In fulfillment of his own purpose he gave us birth by the word of truth, so that we would become a kind of first fruits of his creatures.
- Before destruction one's heart is haughty,
but humility goes before honor. - He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”
- A fool's lips bring strife,
and a fool's mouth invites a flogging. - What is desirable in a person is loyalty,
and it is better to be poor than a liar. - Righteousness exalts a nation,
but sin is a reproach to any people. - A friend loves at all times,
and kinsfolk are born to share adversity. - The memory of the righteous is a blessing,
but the name of the wicked will rot. - When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears,
and rescues them from all their troubles.
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted,
and saves the crushed in spirit. - There is a way that seems right to a person,
but its end is the way to death. - For the customs of the peoples are false:
a tree from the forest is cut down,
and worked with an ax by the hands of an artisan;
people deck it with silver and gold;
they fasten it with hammer and nails
so that it cannot move.
Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field,
and they cannot speak;
they have to be carried,
for they cannot walk.
Do not be afraid of them,
for they cannot do evil,
nor is it in them to do good. - When one will not listen to the law,
even one's prayers are an abomination. - Above all, maintain constant love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins.
- Fools show their anger at once,
but the prudent ignore an insult. - The wealth of the rich is their strong city;
in their imagination it is like a high wall. - The human mind plans the way,
but the Lord directs the steps. - For thus says the high and lofty one
who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
I dwell in the high and holy place,
and also with those who are contrite and humble in spirit,
to revive the spirit of the humble,
and to revive the heart of the contrite. - Put away from you crooked speech,
and put devious talk far from you.
