| For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. | But our citizenship is in heaven, and from there we await our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. |

| Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. | Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence so that we may receive mercy and find grace when we are in need of help. |
| And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him. | And we are witnesses to these things, as is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him. |
| No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. | No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God abides in us, and his love is made complete in us. |

| This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. | This is the message that we have heard from him and that we declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness at all in him. |
| And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also. | This is the commandment we have received from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother. |
| As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. | Therefore, while we have the opportunity, let us labor for the good of all, but especially for those members of the household of the faith. |
| Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. | This is what love is: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins. |
| Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. | By his own choice he gave us birth through the way of truth so that we may be a kind of firstfruits of all his creation. |
| If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. | However, if we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all wrongdoing. |
| And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope. | And not only that, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we realize that suffering develops perseverance, and perseverance produces character, and character produces hope. |
| For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. | He made him who did not know sin to be sin for our sake, so that through him we might become the righteousness of God. |
| Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. | See what love the Father has bestowed on us, enabling us to be called the children of God, and that is what we are. If the world does not recognize us, that is because it did not know him. |
| Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. | There is no salvation in anyone else, nor is there any other name under heaven given to men by which we can be saved. |
| Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? | Can anyone withhold the water of baptism from these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have? |
| And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. | We have come to know and to believe in the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God in him. |
| And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. | We know that God makes all things work together for good for those who love him and who are called according to his purpose. |
