Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. | Therefore, now that we have been justified by faith, we are at peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. |
Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. | Beloved, since God loved us so much, we should love one another. |
|
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. | For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tested in every respect as we are, but without sinning. |
For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. | For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall also be united with him in his resurrection. We know that our old self was crucified with him, so that our sinful body might be destroyed and we might no longer be enslaved to sin. |
Let thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, according as we hope in thee. | O Lord, let your kindness rest upon us, for we have placed our hope in you. |
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. | However, if we live in the light as he himself is in the light, then we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son purifies us from all sin. |
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. | In the same way, even the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs that cannot be put into words. |
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. | For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for a life of good works that God had prepared for us to do. |
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. | For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, Jews as well as Greeks, slaves as well as free men, and we were all given the same Spirit to drink. |
So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he was intreated of us. | Therefore, we fasted and prayed to God to grant us a safe journey, and he answered our prayer. |
But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee. | But who am I, and what are your people, that we should be able to do this? All things belong to you, and everything that we have given you is from your hand. |
We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments. | We have sinned and done what is wrong, we have acted wickedly and rebelled, we have rejected your commandments and your laws. |
So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. | Teach us to comprehend how few our days are so that our hearts may be filled with wisdom. |
But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. | For us there is one God, the Father, from whom all things are and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things are and through whom we exist. |
For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. | For just as in one body we have many parts, and the parts do not all have the same function, so we, though many, make up one body in Christ, and individually we are all parts of one another. |
For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. | At the appointed time, while we were still helpless, Christ died for the ungodly. |
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. | The Spirit himself bears witness with our Spirit that we are children of God. |
Turn us again, O Lord God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved. | Restore us, O Lord of hosts; let your face shine upon us, and we will be saved. |
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? | What then can we say in response to all this? If God is for us, who can be against us? |
For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. | For we are God’s coworkers; you are God’s field, God’s building. |
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. | No, throughout all these things we are conquerors because of him who loved us. |
For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. | For from the beginning you have heard the message that we should love one another. |
Save now, I beseech thee, O Lord: O Lord, I beseech thee, send now prosperity. Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lord: we have blessed you out of the house of the Lord. | O Lord, grant us salvation. O Lord, grant us success. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. We bless you from the house of the Lord. |
We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles, Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. | We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners, yet we know that a man is justified not by the works of the Law but through faith in Jesus Christ. So we too came to believe in Christ Jesus so that we might be justified by faith in him and not by the works of the Law, for no one will be justified by the works of the Law. |
So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. | Therefore, we can say with confidence: “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?” |
