What (2/4)

  • Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you too will abide in the Son and in the Father.
  • What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”
  • Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.
  • When goods increase, they increase who eat them, and what advantage has their owner but to see them with his eyes?
  • But he said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”
  • Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
  • What is desired in a man is steadfast love,
and a poor man is better than a liar.
  • But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine.
  • What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?
  • But test everything; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.
  • But, as it is written,
“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
nor the heart of man imagined,
what God has prepared for those who love him”
  • But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
  • And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
  • Only fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart. For consider what great things he has done for you.
  • To you, O God of my fathers,
    I give thanks and praise,
for you have given me wisdom and might,
and have now made known to me what we asked of you,
for you have made known to us the king's matter.
  • Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops.
  • Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for, but may win a full reward.
  • Woe to him who strives with him who formed him,
    a pot among earthen pots!
Does the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’
or ‘Your work has no handles’?
  • And when they bring you to trial and deliver you over, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.
  • For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.
  • See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
  • Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.
  • As we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
  • When you vow a vow to God, do not delay paying it, for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you vow.
  • But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able thus to offer willingly? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.

But I with the voice of thanksgiving
will sacrifice to you;
what I have vowed I will pay.
Salvation belongs to the Lord!
