Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. | Who are you to pass judgment on servants of another? It is before their own lord that they stand or fall. And they will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make them stand. |
He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise. | In reply he said to them, “Whoever has two coats must share with anyone who has none; and whoever has food must do likewise.” |

It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry. | It is a snare for one to say rashly, “It is holy,” and begin to reflect only after making a vow. |
Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy. | Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgression of the remnant of your possession? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in showing clemency. |
But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. | But the one who endures to the end will be saved. |
So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. | And those who are in the flesh cannot please God. |
Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised. | By faith he received power of procreation, even though he was too old—and Sarah herself was barren—because he considered him faithful who had promised. |
But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. | But when he heard this, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.” |
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. | Very truly, I tell you, whoever receives one whom I send receives me; and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. |
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. | Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. |
Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know them? for the ways of the Lord are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein. | Those who are wise understand these things; those who are discerning know them. For the ways of the Lord are right, and the upright walk in them, but transgressors stumble in them. |
He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he. | Those who are attentive to a matter will prosper, and happy are those who trust in the Lord. |
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. | I can do all things through him who strengthens me. |
As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all. | Just as you do not know how the breath comes to the bones in the mother's womb, so you do not know the work of God, who makes everything. |
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. | Little children, you are from God, and have conquered them; for the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. |
Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. | Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. |
He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good. | To get wisdom is to love oneself; to keep understanding is to prosper. |
Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy. | Deceit is in the mind of those who plan evil, but those who counsel peace have joy. |
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. | They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me; and those who love me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them. |
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock. | Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. |
But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. | And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, support, strengthen, and establish you. |
For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. | For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. |
Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again. | Give to everyone who begs from you; and if anyone takes away your goods, do not ask for them again. |
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you. | But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. |
How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? | How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to worship the living God! |
