- Each person should give as much as he has decided in his heart, not with reluctance or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
- One who finds a wife finds happiness
and receives favor from the Lord. - An honorable name is more to be desired than great riches,
and high esteem is preferable to silver and gold. - Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And yet not one of them is forgotten in God’s sight. Even the hairs on your head have all been counted. Do not be afraid. You are worth far more than any number of sparrows.
- And I say to you: You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld will not prevail against it.
- Blessed is the person who has found wisdom,
the one who has gained understanding. - How great you are, Lord God! There is no one like you, and there is no God except you alone, as everything that we have heard confirms.

Why then do you fear mortal men who must die,
human beings who must perish like grass? - In my Father’s house
there are many dwelling places.
If there were not,
would I have told you
that I am going to prepare a place for you? - And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do as much.
- One person may consider one day to be more sacred than another, while another may judge all days to be alike. Let everyone be convinced in his own beliefs.
- Dear children,
you are from God
and you have conquered them,
for the one who is in you is greater
than the one who is in the world. - When they arrest you and bring you to trial, do not be concerned beforehand about what you are to say. Simply say whatever is given to you when that time comes, for it will not be you who speak but the Holy Spirit.
- Yet even if you should suffer for doing what is right, you are thereby blessed. Have no fear of others, and refuse to be intimidated by them.
- O God, you are my God,
for whom I have been searching earnestly.
My soul yearns for you
and my body thirsts for you,
like the earth when it is parched,
arid and without water. - Because in my eyes you are precious,
because you are honored and I love you,
I will give people in exchange for you
and nations in return for your life. - I am the good shepherd.
The good shepherd
lays down his life for the sheep. - This water prefigured Baptism, which now saves you. It does so not by the washing away of dirt from the body but by the pledge of a good conscience given to God through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- How much more valuable a man is than a sheep! Therefore, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.
- Pay to each person what is rightfully his—taxes to the one to whom taxes are due, tolls to the one to whom tolls are due, respect to the one to whom respect is due, honor to the one to whom honor is due.
- Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you? If he is not, then you have failed the test.
