- Rend your hearts and not your clothing.
Return to the Lord, your God,
for he is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love,
and relents from punishing. - Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own insight.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths. - Keep straight the path of your feet,
and all your ways will be sure. - Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
- Let your eyes look directly forward,
and your gaze be straight before you. - For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts. - For your steadfast love is as high as the heavens;
your faithfulness extends to the clouds. - My child, keep your father's commandment,
and do not forsake your mother's teaching. - Honor the Lord with your substance
and with the first fruits of all your produce. - Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you.
- But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that your fasting may be seen not by others but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
- In the path of your judgments,
O Lord, we wait for you;
your name and your renown
are the soul's desire. - Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
It will be a healing for your flesh
and a refreshment for your body. - Pray then in this way:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven. - Because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance.
- But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be done in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
- Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly.
- Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body.
- The sum of your word is truth;
and every one of your righteous ordinances endures forever. - The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
- So now, O Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? Only to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of the Lord your God and his decrees that I am commanding you today, for your own well-being.
- Teach me to do your will,
for you are my God.
Let your good spirit lead me
on a level path. - Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me.
- But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
- Do not forsake your friend or the friend of your parent;
do not go to the house of your kindred in the day of your calamity.
Better is a neighbor who is nearby
than kindred who are far away.
