- At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said:
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
and naked I will depart.
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away;
may the name of the Lord be praised.” - Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,
for the rights of all who are destitute. - Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.
- Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
- But those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint. - Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
- You, Lord, keep my lamp burning;
my God turns my darkness into light. - Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. - The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners. - Above his head they placed the written charge against him: this is jesus, the king of the jews.
- Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave.
- Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.
- Surely the righteous will never be shaken;
they will be remembered forever. - He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.” - Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
- A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
- Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
let your glory be over all the earth. - “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive.
- For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
- Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
- But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.
- Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
- Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
- Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed;
save me and I will be saved,
for you are the one I praise. - Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
let your glory be over all the earth.
