I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.
Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food to eat or enough clothes to wear. For life is more than food, and your body more than clothing.
By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life.True humility and fear of the Lord lead to riches, honor, and long life.
For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit.
But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.Then Peter said, “Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself. The property was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it, the money was also yours to give away. How could you do a thing like this? You weren’t lying to us but to God!”
Ye shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.Serve only the Lord your God and fear him alone. Obey his commands, listen to his voice, and cling to him.
For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.
Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.My child, listen to me and do as I say, and you will have a long, good life.
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.Gentle words are a tree of life; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.
The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke. The rich can pay a ransom for their lives, but the poor won’t even get threatened.
Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry. So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.
Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh. We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do.
Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?Do you think that I like to see wicked people die? says the Sovereign Lord. Of course not! I want them to turn from their wicked ways and live.
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him.”
He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.People who accept discipline are on the pathway to life, but those who ignore correction will go astray.
Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.“Listen,” he said, “we’re going up to Jerusalem, where the Son of Man will be betrayed to the leading priests and the teachers of religious law. They will sentence him to die. Then they will hand him over to the Romans to be mocked, flogged with a whip, and crucified. But on the third day he will be raised from the dead.”
And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. That is why he is the one who mediates a new covenant between God and people, so that all who are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them. For Christ died to set them free from the penalty of the sins they had committed under that first covenant.
For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”
