- Look straight ahead,
and fix your eyes on what lies before you. - I made a covenant with my eyes
not to look with lust at a young woman. - As for me, I look to the Lord for help.
I wait confidently for God to save me,
and my God will certainly hear me. - So if someone tells you, ‘Look, the Messiah is out in the desert,’ don’t bother to go and look. Or, ‘Look, he is hiding here,’ don’t believe it! For as the lightning flashes in the east and shines to the west, so it will be when the Son of Man comes.
- But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
- So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.
- Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?
- O Israel, my faithless people,
come home to me again,
for I am merciful.
I will not be angry with you forever. - This is what the Lord says:
“Stop at the crossroads and look around.
Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it.
Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls.
But you reply, ‘No, that’s not the road we want!’” - If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.
- Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds.
- When you see the tassels, you will remember and obey all the commands of the Lord instead of following your own desires and defiling yourselves, as you are prone to do.
- And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get.
- Look at the proud!
They trust in themselves, and their lives are crooked.
But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God. - Look! He comes with the clouds of heaven.
And everyone will see him—
even those who pierced him.
And all the nations of the world
will mourn for him.
Yes! Amen! - Watch out that you do not lose what we have worked so hard to achieve. Be diligent so that you receive your full reward.
- And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?
- Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord.
Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly. - But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.
- All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).
- But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.
- Search for the Lord and for his strength;
continually seek him. - But the angel said, “Don’t be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Look, this is where they laid his body.”
- Those who feel free to eat anything must not look down on those who don’t. And those who don’t eat certain foods must not condemn those who do, for God has accepted them.
- God’s way is perfect.
All the Lord’s promises prove true.
He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.
