- See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

taken up in glory. - When a man is newly married, he shall not go out with the army or be charged with any related duty. He shall be free at home one year, to be happy with the wife whom he has married.
- Thus he has given us, through these things, his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of lust, and may become participants of the divine nature.
- Keep my steps steady according to your promise,
and never let iniquity have dominion over me. - Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.
- As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the lure of wealth choke the word, and it yields nothing.
- How does God's love abide in anyone who has the world's goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help?
- Do not deceive yourselves. If you think that you are wise in this age, you should become fools so that you may become wise.

- By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. And this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming; and now it is already in the world.
- Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously;
let this be known in all the earth. - He gives power to the faint,
and strengthens the powerless. - For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation and brings no regret, but worldly grief produces death.
- But those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength,
they shall mount up with wings like eagles,
they shall run and not be weary,
they shall walk and not faint. - For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be destroyed, and we might no longer be enslaved to sin.
- He it is who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify for himself a people of his own who are zealous for good deeds.
- Repent therefore, and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out.
- He saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.
- I made your name known to them, and I will make it known, so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.
