Tongue of a disciple (3/4)

  • For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.
  • But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.
  • For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.
  • I, even I, am he who comforts you.
    Who are you that you fear mere mortals,
    human beings who are but grass.
  • I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
  • Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life.
  • The lips of fools bring them strife,
    and their mouths invite a beating.
  • He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time.
  • What a person desires is unfailing love;
    better to be poor than a liar.
  • If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.
  • Righteousness exalts a nation,
    but sin condemns any people.
  • The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them;
    he delivers them from all their troubles.
    The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
    and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
  • If anyone turns a deaf ear to my instruction,
    even their prayers are detestable.
  • They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
  • There is a way that appears to be right,
    but in the end it leads to death.
  • The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”
  • Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
  • The name of the righteous is used in blessings,
    but the name of the wicked will rot.
  • Fools show their annoyance at once,
    but the prudent overlook an insult.
  • The wealth of the rich is their fortified city;
    they imagine it a wall too high to scale.
  • For this is what the high and exalted One says—
    he who lives forever, whose name is holy:
    “I live in a high and holy place,
    but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit,
    to revive the spirit of the lowly
    and to revive the heart of the contrite.”
  • Before a downfall the heart is haughty,
    but humility comes before honor.
  • Many are the plans in a person’s heart,
    but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.
  • Place me like a seal over your heart,
    like a seal on your arm;
    for love is as strong as death,
    its jealousy unyielding as the grave.
    It burns like blazing fire,
    like a mighty flame.
  • On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.” Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God. Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue leader said to the people, “There are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.” The Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Doesn’t each of you on the Sabbath untie your ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water? Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?” When he said this, all his opponents were humiliated, but the people were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing.

Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.

Bible verse of the day

Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.
