- And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
- Pleasant words are like a honeycomb,
Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones. - Oh, give thanks to the Lord!
Call upon His name;
Make known His deeds among the peoples! - So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. - Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. - A fool has no delight in understanding,
But in expressing his own heart. - Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips
And from a deceitful tongue. - The hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor,
But through knowledge the righteous will be delivered. - A fool’s lips enter into contention,
And his mouth calls for blows. - In all labor there is profit,
But idle chatter leads only to poverty. - Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression,
But a good word makes it glad. - If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.
- Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
- Keep your tongue from evil,
And your lips from speaking deceit. - And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
- And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.
- When I kept silent, my bones grew old
Through my groaning all the day long. - It is honorable for a man to stop striving,
Since any fool can start a quarrel. - The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable,
But the mouth of the wicked what is perverse. - Put away from you a deceitful mouth,
And put perverse lips far from you. - But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.
- But when they arrest you and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand, or premeditate what you will speak. But whatever is given you in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.
- But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine.
- By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. - Open your mouth, judge righteously,
And plead the cause of the poor and needy.
