Chinese (traditional)To you, O God of my fathers,
I offer thanks and praise
because you have given me wisdom and power.
Now you have made known to me
what we asked of you;
you have revealed to us the king’s dream. He who guards his mouth makes his life secure,
but one who talks excessively ensures his own downfall. After he said this, he was lifted up as they looked on, and a cloud took him from their sight. Are you not aware that wrongdoers will never inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! Fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, sodomites, thieves, extortioners, drunkards, slanderers, swindlers—none of these will inherit the kingdom of God. And so you should put to death everything in your nature that is earthly: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desires, and greed (which is idolatry). The labors of the wicked man produce little profit,
but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward. Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. A fool takes no pleasure in understanding
but only delights in expressing his own opinions. Blessed are those whose way is blameless,
who walk in accord with the law of the Lord. The tongue has the power over life and death;
those who cherish it will enjoy its fruits. He replied, “What is impossible for men is possible for God.” Rather, let justice flow like a river,
and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. But as for you, man of God, you must shun all this. Rather, pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, fortitude, and gentleness. How can a young man lead a spotless life?
By living according to your word. When you pray do not go on babbling endlessly as the pagans do, for they believe that they are more likely to be heard because of their many words. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. What god can compare with you,
the God who takes away guilt
and forgives the transgressions
of the remnant of your people?
You will not allow your anger to fester forever,
for your delight is in bestowing mercy. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice,
for they will have their fill. A man is haughty until disaster overtakes him,
but humility comes before honors. Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say: Rejoice! Although you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with a joy that is indescribable and glorious. For you are achieving the goal of your faith, that is, the salvation of your souls. But when the disciples saw him walking on the water they thought it was a ghost and they cried out, for they all had seen him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them, saying, “Have courage! It is I! Do not be afraid!” Take heed to follow the commandments and the laws that Moses, the servant of the Lord, gave you: to love the Lord, your God, and to walk in his ways and to observe his commandments, holding fast to him and serving him with all your heart and all your soul. If you are angry, do not sin. Do not let the sun set on your anger, and do not give the devil an opening. In God alone is my soul at rest;
it is from him that my salvation comes. If you heed the voice of the Lord, your God, and you carefully observe all of the commandments that I have given you today, then the Lord, your God, will lift you up above all the other nations upon the earth. God chose those in the world who were lowly and despised, those who count for nothing, to reduce to nothing those who were regarded as worthy, so that no one could boast in the presence of God. Just as he came forth naked from his mother’s womb,
so shall he depart, naked as he came,
with nothing remaining from his labor
that he can carry away in his hands. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the sake of the gospel will save it. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his mercy endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord, invoke his name;
proclaim his deeds among the peoples. He did not spare his own Son but gave him up for all of us. How then can he fail also to give us everything else along with him? Above all, maintain the fervor of your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.Next verse!With image
