Law (3/5)

The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The law of the Lord is perfect, affording refreshment to the soul. The decree of the Lord is worthy of trust, imparting wisdom to the simple.
That’s the whole story. Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty. This is the end of my teaching. All has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for that is the responsibility of everyone.
Praise the Lord! How joyful are those who fear the Lord and delight in obeying his commands.Alleluia. Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his precepts.
Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill them.
Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.Hear, O Israel, the Lord, our God, is Lord alone. You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.
Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom. Praise him forever! The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; those who are guided by it will grow in understanding. His praise will last forever.
A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’The second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God. The Lord will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name. You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain, for the Lord will not consider blameless those who take his name in vain.
Give me an eagerness for your laws rather than a love for money!Dispose my heart to follow your statutes and to flee selfish gain.
You and I are Jews by birth, not ‘sinners’ like the Gentiles. Yet we know that a person is made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ, not by obeying the law. And we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we might be made right with God because of our faith in Christ, not because we have obeyed the law. For no one will ever be made right with God by obeying the law.We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners, yet we know that a man is justified not by the works of the Law but through faith in Jesus Christ. So we too came to believe in Christ Jesus so that we might be justified by faith in him and not by the works of the Law, for no one will be justified by the works of the Law.
The very essence of your words is truth; all your just regulations will stand forever.Every word you utter is true, and all your righteous judgments are everlasting.
I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.I do not set aside the grace of God, for if justification comes through the Law, then Christ died for nothing.
This is the message you have heard from the beginning: We should love one another. For from the beginning you have heard the message that we should love one another.
Suppose you sin by violating one of the Lord’s commands. Even if you are unaware of what you have done, you are guilty and will be punished for your sin. When someone sins and does any of the things that the Lord has forbidden, even if he does not realize he did it, he has still committed an offense and must bear his guilt.
Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God.Everyone who sins breaks the law, for sin is lawlessness.
Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.Anyone who has received my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.
You must faithfully keep all my commands by putting them into practice, for I am the Lord. You shall observe my commandments and obey them. I am the Lord.
The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living. The precepts of the Lord are right, causing the heart to rejoice. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving light to the eyes.
Do not add to or subtract from these commands I am giving you. Just obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you.You will not add to what I command you, nor will you take away from it, so that you might observe the commandments of the Lord, your God, that I am giving you.
‘I am the Lord your God,’ I told them. ‘Follow my decrees, pay attention to my regulations, and keep my Sabbath days holy, for they are a sign to remind you that I am the Lord your God.’I, the Lord, am your God. You must obey my laws and be careful to observe my ordinances. Keep holy my Sabbaths as a sign between me and you so that you will know that I am the Lord, your God.
As I learn your righteous regulations, I will thank you by living as I should!I will praise you in sincerity of heart as I ponder your righteous judgments.
But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.But now the righteousness of God that is attested by the Law and the Prophets has been manifested apart from law: the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. No distinction has been made.
The way of the Lord is a stronghold to those with integrity, but it destroys the wicked. The way of the Lord is a stronghold for the upright, but destruction for evildoers.
My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in your heart. If you do this, you will live many years, and your life will be satisfying. My son, do not forget my teaching, but cherish my commandments in your heart, for they will bring you length of days, more years of life, and an abundance of prosperity.
So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. Therefore, whoever breaks even one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be considered least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever observes these commandments and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Keep the commandments and keep your life; despising them leads to death.Whoever observes the commandments will live, but the one who scorns them will die.

The Lord is my light and my salvation—
so why should I be afraid?
The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger,
so why should I tremble?
