The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy,
making wise the simple. - The wise are glad to be instructed,
but babbling fools fall flat on their faces. - Praise the Lord!
How joyful are those who fear the Lord
and delight in obeying his commands. - Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom.
All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom.
Praise him forever! - I will never forget your commandments,
for by them you give me life. - I ask you again, does God give you the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you because you obey the law? Of course not! It is because you believe the message you heard about Christ.
- You and I are Jews by birth, not ‘sinners’ like the Gentiles. Yet we know that a person is made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ, not by obeying the law. And we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we might be made right with God because of our faith in Christ, not because we have obeyed the law. For no one will ever be made right with God by obeying the law.
- Suppose you sin by violating one of the Lord’s commands. Even if you are unaware of what you have done, you are guilty and will be punished for your sin.
- A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
- You must faithfully keep all my commands by putting them into practice, for I am the Lord.
- You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God. The Lord will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name.
- I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.
- The commandments of the Lord are right,
bringing joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are clear,
giving insight for living. - Give me an eagerness for your laws
rather than a love for money! - Do not add to or subtract from these commands I am giving you. Just obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you.
- Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God.
- The very essence of your words is truth;
all your just regulations will stand forever. - This is the message you have heard from the beginning: We should love one another.
- ‘I am the Lord your God,’ I told them. ‘Follow my decrees, pay attention to my regulations, and keep my Sabbath days holy, for they are a sign to remind you that I am the Lord your God.’
- Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.
- My child, never forget the things I have taught you.
Store my commands in your heart.
If you do this, you will live many years,
and your life will be satisfying. - Then the Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain. Stay there, and I will give you the tablets of stone on which I have inscribed the instructions and commands so you can teach the people.”
- As I learn your righteous regulations,
I will thank you by living as I should! - Your laws are my treasure;
they are my heart’s delight. - But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.
