- I will never forget your commandments,
for by them you give me life. - For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace.
- The instructions of the Lord are perfect,
reviving the soul.
The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy,
making wise the simple. - Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom.
All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom.
Praise him forever! - Brothers, listen! We are here to proclaim that through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins. Everyone who believes in him is made right in God’s sight—something the law of Moses could never do.
- You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God. The Lord will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name.
- A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
- Give me an eagerness for your laws
rather than a love for money! - This is the message you have heard from the beginning: We should love one another.
- Suppose you sin by violating one of the Lord’s commands. Even if you are unaware of what you have done, you are guilty and will be punished for your sin.
- You and I are Jews by birth, not ‘sinners’ like the Gentiles. Yet we know that a person is made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ, not by obeying the law. And we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we might be made right with God because of our faith in Christ, not because we have obeyed the law. For no one will ever be made right with God by obeying the law.
- Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.
- The very essence of your words is truth;
all your just regulations will stand forever. - Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God.
- I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.
- Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.
- As I learn your righteous regulations,
I will thank you by living as I should! - ‘I am the Lord your God,’ I told them. ‘Follow my decrees, pay attention to my regulations, and keep my Sabbath days holy, for they are a sign to remind you that I am the Lord your God.’
- You must faithfully keep all my commands by putting them into practice, for I am the Lord.
- The commandments of the Lord are right,
bringing joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are clear,
giving insight for living. - Keep the commandments and keep your life;
despising them leads to death. - Your laws are my treasure;
they are my heart’s delight. - Do not add to or subtract from these commands I am giving you. Just obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you.
- But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.
- The way of the Lord is a stronghold to those with integrity,
but it destroys the wicked.
