- I will never forget your commandments,
for by them you give me life. - For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace.
- Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.

The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy,
making wise the simple. - Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom.
All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom.
Praise him forever! - A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
- You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God. The Lord will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name.
- Give me an eagerness for your laws
rather than a love for money! - Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.
- The very essence of your words is truth;
all your just regulations will stand forever. - You and I are Jews by birth, not ‘sinners’ like the Gentiles. Yet we know that a person is made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ, not by obeying the law. And we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we might be made right with God because of our faith in Christ, not because we have obeyed the law. For no one will ever be made right with God by obeying the law.
- This is the message you have heard from the beginning: We should love one another.
- Suppose you sin by violating one of the Lord’s commands. Even if you are unaware of what you have done, you are guilty and will be punished for your sin.
- Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God.
- Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.
- I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.
- ‘I am the Lord your God,’ I told them. ‘Follow my decrees, pay attention to my regulations, and keep my Sabbath days holy, for they are a sign to remind you that I am the Lord your God.’
- As I learn your righteous regulations,
I will thank you by living as I should! - You must faithfully keep all my commands by putting them into practice, for I am the Lord.
- The commandments of the Lord are right,
bringing joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are clear,
giving insight for living. - My child, never forget the things I have taught you.
Store my commands in your heart.
If you do this, you will live many years,
and your life will be satisfying. - Do not add to or subtract from these commands I am giving you. Just obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you.
- So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.
- Keep the commandments and keep your life;
despising them leads to death. - Your laws are my treasure;
they are my heart’s delight.
