Prayer (2/3)

  • You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.
  • In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
  • In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice;
    in the morning I lay my requests before you
    and wait expectantly.
  • By day the Lord directs his love,
    at night his song is with me—
    a prayer to the God of my life.
  • Lord, hear my prayer,
    listen to my cry for mercy;
    in your faithfulness and righteousness
    come to my relief.
  • Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.
  • Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
  • When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord;
    he brought me into a spacious place.
  • For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
    and his ears are attentive to their prayer,
    but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.
  • For I know that through your prayers and God’s provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.
  • This, then, is how you should pray:
    ‘Our Father in heaven,
    hallowed be your name,
    your kingdom come,
    your will be done,
    on earth as it is in heaven.’
  • So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer.
  • May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
    be pleasing in your sight,
    Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
  • Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.
  • This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
    he saved him out of all his troubles.
  • And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
  • After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before.
  • And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.
  • So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.
  • After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
  • If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!
  • Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the Lord.’
  • But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
  • Arise, Lord! Lift up your hand, O God.
    Do not forget the helpless.
  • I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors:
    You have given me wisdom and power,
    you have made known to me what we asked of you,
    you have made known to us the dream of the king.

So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.
