Righteousness (4/5)

  • He reserves his wisdom for the upright
    and is a shield to those who lead blameless lives.
  • We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners, yet we know that a man is justified not by the works of the Law but through faith in Jesus Christ. So we too came to believe in Christ Jesus so that we might be justified by faith in him and not by the works of the Law, for no one will be justified by the works of the Law.
  • Blessings are showered on the head of the righteous,
    but sorrow will cover the face of the wicked.
  • For no one can be regarded as justified in the sight of God by keeping the Law. The Law brings only the consciousness of sin.
  • Then Peter addressed them: “I now understand how true it is that God has no favorites, but that in every nation all those who fear God and do what is right are acceptable to him.”
  • I have instructed you in the ways of wisdom
    and led you along the paths of righteousness.
  • The tongue of the just man is like pure silver;
    the heart of the wicked is without worth.
  • Train a child in the way he should go,
    and he will not deviate from it, even in old age.
  • Blessed are those whose way is blameless,
    who walk in accord with the law of the Lord.
  • Come to your senses and sin no more. For some of you have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.
  • And yet he is aware of everywhere I go;
    if he were to test me, I would emerge like pure gold.
    My footsteps have not strayed from the path he established;
    I have followed his way and never turned aside.
  • The proud man’s heart is not upright,
    but the righteous man will live
    because of his faith.
  • The hope of the righteous brings them joy,
    but the expectations of the wicked are frustrated.
  • For light produces all goodness and righteousness and truth.
  • He is a rock, his deeds are perfect,
    and all of his ways are just.
    He is a God of truth who does no wrong;
    he is just and upright.
  • I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. Now waiting for me is the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day—and not only to me, but to all those who have eagerly longed for his appearance.
  • Nor should you present any part of your body as an instrument for wickedness leading to sin. Rather, present yourselves to God as having been raised from death to life and the parts of your body to God as instruments for righteousness.
  • The righteous is remembered with blessings,
    but the name of the wicked fades away.
  • The one who provides seed for sowing and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed and increase the harvest of your righteousness.
  • For he guards the paths of justice
    and keeps watch over the way of his faithful ones.
  • As we proceed in the path of your judgments,
    we wait for you, O Lord;
    your name and your renown
    are all that our heart desires.
  • Riches will be of no avail on the day of wrath,
    but righteousness delivers from death.
  • If you listen to the voice of the Lord, your God, and you do what is right in his sight, if you listen to his ordinances and observe all of his laws, I will not bring upon you any of the diseases that I brought upon the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.
  • I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, says the Lord God. Repent and live!
  • Let your eyes look straight ahead;
    fix your gaze on what lies before you.

“All things are lawful,” you may say—but not all things are beneficial. All things may be lawful—but not all things are constructive.
