Comes (2/4)

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit. But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.
So Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.”So Jesus told them, “My message is not my own; it comes from God who sent me.”
And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”And then he added, “It is what comes from inside that defiles you. For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.”
And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.
For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.
Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.Don’t be fooled by what they say. For that day will not come until there is a great rebellion against God and the man of lawlessness is revealed—the one who brings destruction. He will exalt himself and defy everything that people call god and every object of worship. He will even sit in the temple of God, claiming that he himself is God.
As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything.Just as you cannot understand the path of the wind or the mystery of a tiny baby growing in its mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the activity of God, who does all things.
Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. So you, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know what day your Lord is coming.
For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
But I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Salvation belongs to the Lord! But I will offer sacrifices to you with songs of praise, and I will fulfill all my vows. For my salvation comes from the Lord alone.
Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.
To make an apt answer is a joy to a man, and a word in season, how good it is!Everyone enjoys a fitting reply; it is wonderful to say the right thing at the right time!
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.Rejoice, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey— riding on a donkey’s colt.
Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, but those who plan peace have joy.Deceit fills hearts that are plotting evil; joy fills hearts that are planning peace!
From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right!
For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.
A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.
I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.I baptize with water those who repent of their sins and turn to God. But someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—so much greater that I’m not worthy even to be his slave and carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.
The wise of heart will receive commandments, but a babbling fool will come to ruin. The wise are glad to be instructed, but babbling fools fall flat on their faces.
As he came from his mother's womb he shall go again, naked as he came, and shall take nothing for his toil that he may carry away in his hand.We all come to the end of our lives as naked and empty-handed as on the day we were born. We can’t take our riches with us.
