- An ignorant man causes strife by his insolence,
but wisdom is found with those who take advice. - Blessed are those who trust in the Lord
and whose hope is the Lord.
They will be like a tree planted by the water
that spreads out its roots to the stream.
When the heat comes, it does not fear;
its leaves stay green.
It is not concerned in a year of drought,
and it never fails to bear fruit. - For everything that is in the world—
the concupiscence of the flesh,
the concupiscence of the eyes,
and the pride of life—
comes not from the Father
but from the world. - Then he went on, “It is what comes out of a person that defiles. For from within, from the human heart, come evil thoughts, unchastity, theft, murder, adultery, avarice, malice, deceit, indecency, envy, slander, arrogance, and folly. All these evils come from within, and they defile a person.”
- And as we gaze upon the glory of the Lord with unveiled faces, all of us are being transformed into that same image from glory to glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
- He who guards his mouth makes his life secure,
but one who talks excessively ensures his own downfall. - For no one can be regarded as justified in the sight of God by keeping the Law. The Law brings only the consciousness of sin.
- But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and then you will be my witnesses not only in Jerusalem, but throughout Judea and Samaria, and indeed to the farthest ends of the earth.
- He brought you low, allowing you to suffer from hunger. He then fed you with manna, something with which your fathers were not familiar, so that you might come to know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes forth from the mouth of the Lord.
- Therefore, keep watch, for you do not know the day when your Lord is coming.
- Wait quietly for the Lord
and be patient until he comes.
Do not fret over the man who prospers
because of his evil schemes. - However, the wisdom that comes from above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, and considerate, full of mercy and good fruits, without any trace of partiality or hypocrisy.
- The Lord will become king over the whole earth. When that day comes, he will be the only Lord, and his name will be the only name.
- For the Lord himself is the one who bestows wisdom;
from his mouth come forth knowledge and understanding. - The fear of the Lord provides instruction in wisdom,
and to be humble is the way to honor. - Hope deferred sickens the heart,
but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life. - A man is joyful when he utters apt answers,
and even more satisfying is a word in season. - Rejoice with all your heart, O daughter Zion.
Shout for joy, O daughter Jerusalem.
See, your king is coming to you,
triumphant and victorious,
humble and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey. - Deceit is in the heart of those who plot evil,
but those who counsel peace have joy. - Out of the same mouth flow blessings and curses. This should not be so, my brethren.
- Everyone who sins comes from the devil,
for the devil has been a sinner
from the very beginning.
The Son of God appeared for this very purpose:
to destroy the work of the devil. - If your brother should sin, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. Even if he wrongs you seven times a day, and comes back to you seven times to say, ‘I am sorry,’ you must forgive him.
- Beloved,
let us love one another,
because love is from God.
Everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. - When they arrest you and bring you to trial, do not be concerned beforehand about what you are to say. Simply say whatever is given to you when that time comes, for it will not be you who speak but the Holy Spirit.
- Every good act of giving and every perfect gift are from above, coming down from the Father of all light. With him there is no alteration or shadow caused by change.
