- For the Scriptures say,
“If you want to enjoy life
and see many happy days,
keep your tongue from speaking evil
and your lips from telling lies.
Turn away from evil and do good.
Search for peace, and work to maintain it.” - And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?
- My child, if your heart is wise,
my own heart will rejoice! - If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first.
- Now, who will want to harm you if you are eager to do good?
- One should be kind to a fainting friend,
but you accuse me without any fear of the Almighty. - If another believer sins against you, go privately and point out the offense. If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back.
- Hiding hatred makes you a liar;
slandering others makes you a fool. - God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
- Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for “bad company corrupts good character.”
- Then what will you think if you see the Son of Man ascend to heaven again?
- Do not nurse hatred in your heart for any of your relatives. Confront people directly so you will not be held guilty for their sin. Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against a fellow Israelite, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.
- Accept other believers who are weak in faith, and don’t argue with them about what they think is right or wrong.
- I can never escape from your Spirit!
I can never get away from your presence!
If I go up to heaven, you are there;
if I go down to the grave, you are there. - But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you.
- If the person still refuses to listen, take your case to the church. Then if he or she won’t accept the church’s decision, treat that person as a pagan or a corrupt tax collector.
- The Lord will stay with you as long as you stay with him! Whenever you seek him, you will find him. But if you abandon him, he will abandon you.
- But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.
- This is a trustworthy saying:
If we die with him,
we will also live with him. - What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?
- Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?”
- But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
- If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you.
- So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.
- Do not withhold good from those who deserve it
when it’s in your power to help them.
