- For what will it profit them to gain the whole world and forfeit their life?
- Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for you reap whatever you sow.
- There is a way that seems right to a person,
but its end is the way to death. - Before destruction one's heart is haughty,
but humility goes before honor. - So God created humankind in his image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them. - Wealth is a ransom for a person's life,
but the poor get no threats. - But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for the Lord does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
- It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to put confidence in mortals. - To make an apt answer is a joy to anyone,
and a word in season, how good it is! - Do not let loyalty and faithfulness forsake you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.
So you will find favor and good repute
in the sight of God and of people. - Praise the Lord!
Happy are those who fear the Lord,
who greatly delight in his commandments. - He who finds a wife finds a good thing,
and obtains favor from the Lord. - For what human being knows what is truly human except the human spirit that is within? So also no one comprehends what is truly God's except the Spirit of God.
- He replied, “What is impossible for mortals is possible for God.”
- How much more valuable is a human being than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the sabbath.
- Let no one deceive you in any way; for that day will not come unless the rebellion comes first and the lawless one is revealed, the one destined for destruction. He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, declaring himself to be God.
- Or can one walk on hot coals
without scorching the feet? - All deeds are right in the sight of the doer,
but the Lord weighs the heart. - It is honorable to refrain from strife,
but every fool is quick to quarrel. - For all of us make many mistakes. Anyone who makes no mistakes in speaking is perfect, able to keep the whole body in check with a bridle.
- It is well with those who deal generously and lend,
who conduct their affairs with justice. - Each of you, however, should love his wife as himself, and a wife should respect her husband.
- The clever see danger and hide;
but the simple go on, and suffer for it. - How happy is the one whom God reproves;
therefore do not despise the discipline of the Almighty. - In the same way, husbands should love their wives as they do their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
