| Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness. | Dispose my heart to follow your statutes and to flee selfish gain. |
| Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. | I have given you a command. Be strong and brave, do not be afraid nor dismayed. I, the Lord, your God, will be with you wherever you go. |
| Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord. | Do not be lacking in zeal, but serve the Lord with spiritual fervor. |
| Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. | I treasure your word in my heart for fear that I may sin against you. |
| Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. | Do not let anyone lead you astray. “Bad company corrupts good morals.” |
| Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee. | O Lord, all my longing is known to you, and my sighs are not hidden from you. |
| He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. | He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress, so that I stand unshaken. |
| But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. | Be doers of the word and not just hearers who only deceive themselves. |
| If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the Lord of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart. | If you refuse to listen to me and do not sincerely resolve to give glory to my name, says the Lord of hosts, I will send a curse on you, and I will turn your blessings into a curse. Indeed, I have already done so because you have not heeded my warning. |
| Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. | So we must not fall asleep as the others do, but we must stay alert and sober. |
| Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? | Or can a man walk on red-hot coals without scorching his feet? |
| For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. | For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. |
| My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. | Dear children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth. |

| Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. | Live in harmony with one another. Do not consider yourself to be better than others, but associate with the lowly, and never be conceited. |
| While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. | For our eyes are fixed not on what is seen but rather on that which cannot be seen. What is visible is transitory; what is invisible is eternal. |
