- If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
- One thing I asked of the Lord,
that will I seek after:
to live in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to behold the beauty of the Lord,
and to inquire in his temple. - Hence, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that “no idol in the world really exists,” and that “there is no God but one.”

he leads out the prisoners to prosperity,

all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
my whole life long. - For “no human being will be justified in his sight” by deeds prescribed by the law, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.
- But the one who did not know and did what deserved a beating will receive a light beating. From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required; and from the one to whom much has been entrusted, even more will be demanded.
- It is honorable to refrain from strife,
but every fool is quick to quarrel. - He has told you, O mortal, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God? - For the fruit of the light is found in all that is good and right and true.
- For, while physical training is of some value, godliness is valuable in every way, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
- For if you truly amend your ways and your doings, if you truly act justly one with another, if you do not oppress the alien, the orphan, and the widow, or shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not go after other gods to your own hurt, then I will dwell with you in this place, in the land that I gave of old to your ancestors forever and ever.
- Yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.
- Do not envy the violent
and do not choose any of their ways;
for the perverse are an abomination to the Lord,
but the upright are in his confidence. - A fool despises a parent's instruction,
but the one who heeds admonition is prudent. - What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit.
- Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”
- Looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.
- But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
- For in much wisdom is much vexation,
and those who increase knowledge increase sorrow.
