For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. | Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. |
Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. | Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. |

The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself. | A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. |
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. | A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. |
One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. | One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. |
And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. | He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person.” |

Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high. | The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. |
If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. | If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple. |
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. | Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. |
A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends. | A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends. |
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. | There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death. |
Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. | Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding. |
A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit. | Pride brings a person low, but the lowly in spirit gain honor. |
For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. | Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. |
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. | Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. |
And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him; Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats? | “Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them? For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean.) |
Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. | How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. |
How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days. | How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath. |
Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad. | Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up. |
The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke. | A person’s riches may ransom their life, but the poor cannot respond to threatening rebukes. |
Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. | Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. |
Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways. For the froward is abomination to the Lord: but his secret is with the righteous. | Do not envy the violent or choose any of their ways. For the Lord detests the perverse but takes the upright into his confidence. |
For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. | For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. |
