- For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.
- A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
- I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
- Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.

in the sight of God and man. - Know also that wisdom is like honey for you:
If you find it, there is a future hope for you,
and your hope will not be cut off. - But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
- May God bless us still,
so that all the ends of the earth will fear him. - No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.
- For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.
- But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”
- My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.
- Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
- But Scripture has locked up everything under the control of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.
- Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
- Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.
- And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
- So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.
- And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
- Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
