- This water prefigured Baptism, which now saves you. It does so not by the washing away of dirt from the body but by the pledge of a good conscience given to God through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- They will never again experience hunger or thirst,
nor will the sun or any scorching heat cause them discomfort.
For the Lamb who is at the center of the throne
will be their shepherd.
He will guide them to springs of living water,
and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. - Blessed are those who trust in the Lord
and whose hope is the Lord.
They will be like a tree planted by the water
that spreads out its roots to the stream.
When the heat comes, it does not fear;
its leaves stay green.
It is not concerned in a year of drought,
and it never fails to bear fruit. - But when the disciples saw him walking on the water they thought it was a ghost and they cried out, for they all had seen him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them, saying, “Have courage! It is I! Do not be afraid!”
- A generous person will be enriched;
he who refreshes others will also be refreshed. - Whoever feeds upon my flesh and drinks my blood
dwells in me and I dwell in him. - On one Sabbath as Jesus was teaching in the synagogue, a woman was present, possessed by a spirit that had crippled her for eighteen years. She was bent over and completely unable to stand up straight. When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said, “Woman, you are freed from your infirmity.” Then he laid his hands on her, and immediately she stood up straight and began praising God.
But the leader of the synagogue was indignant because Jesus had effected a cure on the Sabbath, and he said to the assembled people, “There are six days when work is permitted. Come on those days and be cured, and not on the Sabbath.” The Lord said to him in reply, “You hypocrites! Is there a single one of you who does not untie his ox or his donkey and lead it from its stall to give it water on the Sabbath? Should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has held bound for eighteen long years, be set free from this bondage on the Sabbath?” At these words, all his adversaries were put to shame, and the people rejoiced at all the wonderful things he was doing. - Rather, let justice flow like a river,
and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. - When Jesus had taken the wine, he said, “It is finished.” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
- Not because of any righteous deeds on our part
but because of his mercy,
he saved us through the bath of rebirth
and renewal by the Holy Spirit. - He builds his upper chambers in the heavens
and establishes his vault of the sky over the earth—
the Lord is his name. - For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
- Pay to each person what is rightfully his—taxes to the one to whom taxes are due, tolls to the one to whom tolls are due, respect to the one to whom respect is due, honor to the one to whom honor is due.
- Remember this, my beloved brethren: everyone should be quick to listen but slow to speak and slow to anger.
- Jesus then said to her, “Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to my Father. But go to my brethren and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ”
- I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.
- For the Son of Man has come to seek out and to save what was lost.
- For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.
- The Lord is near to all who call out to him,
to all who call out to him sincerely. - The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring the good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim release to prisoners
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free. - It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to place your trust in mortals. - And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do as much.
- In the same way, the Son of Man did not come to be served but rather to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.
- If he refuses to listen to them, report it to the Church. And if he refuses to listen to the Church, treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector.
- Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill them.
