Chinese (traditional)- You may say to yourself, “How can we recognize a word that the Lord has not spoken?” If a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord but the thing does not take place or prove true, it is a word that the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; do not be frightened by it.
- For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
- Let your word be ‘Yes, Yes’ or ‘No, No’; anything more than this comes from the evil one.
- So those who welcomed his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand persons were added.
- Those who are attentive to a matter will prosper,
and happy are those who trust in the Lord. - Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power.
- You must neither add anything to what I command you nor take away anything from it, but keep the commandments of the Lord your God with which I am charging you.
- The unfolding of your words gives light;
it imparts understanding to the simple. - Like newborn infants, long for the pure, spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow into salvation.
- For all of us make many mistakes. Anyone who makes no mistakes in speaking is perfect, able to keep the whole body in check with a bridle.
- Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only what is useful for building up, as there is need, so that your words may give grace to those who hear.
- The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall not steal; You shall not covet”; and any other commandment, are summed up in this word, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
- Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
- Now I would remind you, brothers and sisters, of the good news that I proclaimed to you, which you in turn received, in which also you stand, through which also you are being saved, if you hold firmly to the message that I proclaimed to you—unless you have come to believe in vain.
- That is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us.
- For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
- Let me hear of your steadfast love in the morning,
for in you I put my trust.
Teach me the way I should go,
for to you I lift up my soul. - I did not shrink from doing anything helpful, proclaiming the message to you and teaching you publicly and from house to house.
- And now I am about to go the way of all the earth, and you know in your hearts and souls, all of you, that not one thing has failed of all the good things that the Lord your God promised concerning you; all have come to pass for you, not one of them has failed.
Bear one another's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
