Sin (3/6)

  • We have sinned, and have dealt perversely, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even turning aside from your precepts and from your ordinances.
  • Righteousness exalts a nation,
but sin is a disgrace to any people.
  • I have hidden your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.
  • “Come now, and let’s reason together,” says Yahweh:
“Though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.
Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
  • For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed.
  • For sin will not have dominion over you, for you are not under law, but under grace.
  • But he was pierced for our transgressions.
He was crushed for our iniquities.
    The punishment that brought our peace was on him;
and by his wounds we are healed.
  • I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.
  • Wash yourselves. Make yourself clean.
Put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes.
    Cease to do evil.
  • I acknowledged my sin to you.
    I didn’t hide my iniquity.
I said, I will confess my transgressions to Yahweh,
and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
  • But if the wicked turns from all his sins that he has committed, and keeps all my statutes, and does that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live. He shall not die.
  • The way of Yahweh is a stronghold to the upright,
but it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.
  • This is the message which we have heard from him and announce to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
  • Also, do not present your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
  • He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul,
but he who is contemptuous in his ways shall die.
  • Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin.
  • I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, your transgressions,
and, as a cloud, your sins.
Return to me, for I have redeemed you.
  • Namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning to them their trespasses, and having committed to us the word of reconciliation.
  • Their eyes were opened, and they both knew that they were naked. They sewed fig leaves together, and made coverings for themselves.
  • You lust, and don’t have. You murder and covet, and can’t obtain. You fight and make war. You don’t have, because you don’t ask.
  • In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins.
  • When I kept silence, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.
  • As far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
  • Therefore let’s also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with perseverance the race that is set before us.
  • For a day in your courts is better than a thousand.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God,
than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

I tell you that even so there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety-nine righteous people who need no repentance.
