- And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.
- Gracious words are like a honeycomb,
sweetness to the soul and health to the body. - Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name;
make known his deeds among the peoples! - So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it. - Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in your sight,
O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. - A fool takes no pleasure in understanding,
but only in expressing his opinion. - Deliver me, O Lord,
from lying lips,
from a deceitful tongue. - With his mouth the godless man would destroy his neighbor,
but by knowledge the righteous are delivered. - A fool's lips walk into a fight,
and his mouth invites a beating. - Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down,
but a good word makes him glad. - In all toil there is profit,
but mere talk tends only to poverty. - If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
- If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless.
- Keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from speaking deceit. - And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
- Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret.
- The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable,
but the mouth of the wicked, what is perverse. - For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away
through my groaning all day long. - Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.
- And when they bring you to trial and deliver you over, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.
- Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O Lord, you know it altogether. - It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife,
but every fool will be quarreling. - Put away from you crooked speech,
and put devious talk far from you. - For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
- But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine.
