- Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
- Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name;
make known his deeds among the peoples! - Gracious words are like a honeycomb,
sweetness to the soul and health to the body. - So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it. - A fool takes no pleasure in understanding,
but only in expressing his opinion. - Deliver me, O Lord,
from lying lips,
from a deceitful tongue. - Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in your sight,
O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. - With his mouth the godless man would destroy his neighbor,
but by knowledge the righteous are delivered. - In all toil there is profit,
but mere talk tends only to poverty. - The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable,
but the mouth of the wicked, what is perverse. - If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
- And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
- A fool's lips walk into a fight,
and his mouth invites a beating. - Keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from speaking deceit. - Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down,
but a good word makes him glad. - It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife,
but every fool will be quarreling. - Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret.
- Put away from you crooked speech,
and put devious talk far from you. - But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.
- But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine.
- Open your mouth, judge righteously,
defend the rights of the poor and needy. - And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen.”
- And when they bring you to trial and deliver you over, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.
- The one who conceals hatred has lying lips,
and whoever utters slander is a fool. - For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
